About Tehran City Park (Park-e Shahr)

Park-e Shahr is located in District 12 in Tehran. It is one of Tehran's oldest recreational venues. This Park was established in 1960 and continues to be a popular destination among locals and tourists alike.

Park-e Shahr has a rich history that dates back to the Nasserian period in Tehran. The neighborhood of Sangelaj, which existed during Amir Kabir's reign, encompassed the area where the Park is now located. It extended from Behesht Street to Qavam Al-Dowleh bazaar in the south and from Vahdat Eslami Street and 30 Tir in the west to Khayyam Street in the east.

When Reza Khan gained political power, he purchased and demolished houses and shelters in the Sangelaj neighborhood. This action was prompted by the area's sewage overflow and the lack of proper piping, which resulted in contaminated drinking water in other neighborhoods. Some speculate that Reza Khan destroyed Sangelaj to conceal his previous residence in the area.

Under Reza Khan's directive, trees were planted in the neighborhood, transforming it into a beautiful garden. The western part of the garden was managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, while the eastern part was under the jurisdiction of the Tehran municipality. Eventually, in 1950, the entire garden came under the administration of the municipality.

Following Reza Khan's order, plans were made to establish Tehran's first Park in this area. Engineer Kazemi and Rahmani were assigned the task of designing and overseeing the implementation of the garden. In 1960, Park-e Shahr was opened to the public, offering a picturesque retreat.

Alternatively, if you choose to use Line 2 of the subway, alight at Hassan Abad Metro Station and walk south on Vahdat Eslami Street for about five minutes to reach the Park.

Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can take buses that go to Fayyazbakhsh Terminal or buses that operate to Imam Khomeini Square. BRTs on Valiasr Street, such as those on the railway-Tajrish route, can also be used. If you opt for the latter option, get off at Dr. Hesabi's station, proceed east on Imam Khomeini Street, and you will reach the city park after approximately a 20-minute walk.
