Hamadan

On the road traveling from Tehran toward the city of Kermanshah "Bakhtaran," one passes through the valley of Asad-Abad. In the small town of Kangavar located at the distance of about 75 km from Hamadan and 96 km from Kermanshah, ruins of a majestic historic site start to appear right by the roadside.

The great Avicenna is well-known as a philosopher and physician who is popular worldwide as the father of early modern medicine. His most famous works are “The Book of Healing”, and “The Canon of Medicine”, a medical encyclopedia. He is also known as a great mathematician whose theories were taught in Europe until the 19th century. 

Hamadan (in old Persian: Hagmetana or Ecbatana) is one of the oldest continually inhabited towns in Iran. It is believed that the city was occupied by the Assyrians in 1100 BCE.
